Performance of Silica Fume-Based Geopolymer Grouts for Heritage Masonry Consolidation

Despite the increasing number of studies on geopolymer-based materials, a lack information still prevails concerning use geopolymer materials for consolidation and conservation built heritage. Since introduction term “geopolymer” by Davidovits, several have pointed out geopolymers as potential replacement traditional binders, mainly due to their advantages associated with mechanical properties low carbon dioxide emissions. The (also known alkali-activated or inorganic polymers) are obtained chemical process through which precursors rich in silica alumina interact an alkaline medium result material binding properties. aim this study is exploit grouts stone masonry buildings. Grouting grout injection technique used heritage buildings; it consists agent fill internal voids cracks. An experimental program was carried improve knowledge suitable purposes. findings revealed that silica-fume-based has worse performance from rheological point view, whereas showed promising results terms strength when compared hydraulic-lime-based grout.
